Made for Movement's signature service is individualized programming based on classical Pilates. That means we teach Pilates the way Joseph Pilates taught his method - as a system across multiple pieces of equipment. You will have the opportunity to learn and practice exercises on a range of Pilates equipment including the mat, reformer, tower, cadillac/trapeze, Wunda, arm and high chairs, spine corrector, small and ladder barrels, and the ped-o-pul.
We offer private lessons and open studio lessons, in which up to five students practice their personalized program under teacher guidance.

An avid learner, Mandy has taken many continuing education workshops. She has completed Pilates for Buff Bones training and Pilates for Menopause and Pre- and Post-Natal Specialist certifications through the Center for Women’s Fitness. Mandy has also completed Anatomy Trains’ Fascial Dissection and Movement Program with Tom Myers and Elizabeth Larkam. She has taken workshops from a long list of instructors including Irene Dowd, Wendy LeBlanc Arbuckle, Alan Herdman, Karen Clippenger, Tom McCook, Phillip Beach, Jules Mitchell, and Mary Bowen, and is a member of Chantill Lopez’s Skillful Teaching Mentoring Program. In addition to Pilates-based trainings, Mandy has also explored other forms of movement education, including the Alexander Technique, Feldenkreis, the Franklin Method, Neurokinetic Therapy and Oov Fundamentals.
Most recently Mandy has been studying and practicing classical Pilates, and has completed additional training through the Karen Frischmann's Classical Progressions Program. After both experiencing and witnessing the benefits of the classical approach, Mandy's teaching is now based upon classical Pilates.
Mandy truly enjoys sharing her wonder and excitement about our bodies’ movement potential, and she is honored to have the opportunity to educate people about how to move with more strength and ease. Her approach to teaching is based on kindness, humor, curiosity and optimism. Her priorities as a teacher are to safely guide her students to a deeper connection to and appreciation for their bodies. Her hope is that people leave their sessions feeling empowered through movement, which is carried over into all other aspects of their lives.

In 2018 she decided to expand her knowledge and share her passion of Pilates and its wonderful benefits with others through teaching. In addition to being comprehensively trained through Balanced Body, Barbara is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) and ACE certified personal trainer.
Barbara believes that Pilates is for everybody. She enjoys working with her students to educate and safely explore how the Pilates Movement Principles can facilitate movement, growth, change and increased enjoyment of daily life.

Experiencing exercises across various pieces of equipment fosters exploration and discovery of a deeper understanding of your body and of the connections between different exercises. With consistent practice, the result will be greater strength and efficiency of movement.
Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, Pilates is a mind-body exercise system based on principles of breathing, centering, control, concentration, precision, and fluid movement. These principles are the basis of movements that emphasize aligning the spine and lengthening the body. Pilates can be described as “stretch with strength and control.“ Pilates-based exercises promote optimal movement patterns and balanced strength and flexibility, allowing efficient use of the body and more easeful movement. For many people, consistent and thoughtful practice of Pilates results in heightened body awareness, and they report noticing themselves standing taller, sitting straighter, and moving with better balance and coordination.
